HLR Lookup launches MCP server for AI agents
Posted 24th July 2026 in Updates
The new MCP server allows developers to connect HLR Lookup to agent-driven systems, enabling telephone-number checks to form part of an AI agent’s wider workflow.
Instead of relying on formatting checks, static carrier data or assumptions made from incomplete information, an agent can access specialist HLR intelligence before deciding whether to call, message, route or further verify a telephone number.
Bringing live telecom data into AI workflows

AI agents are increasingly being used to carry out actions across customer communications, fraud prevention, data operations and telecommunications platforms.
However, an agent’s decision is only as reliable as the information available to it.
Through the HLR Lookup MCP server, compatible agents can access live telephone-number intelligence as a tool within their workflow. Depending on the lookup and destination, this can include information such as:
Real-time connectivity status
Current and original network information
Carrier and portability insight
Last ported date where supported
Disposable-number detection
Wider network-level information
This creates practical applications across Voice AI, CPaaS, messaging, fraud prevention, routing and number-data management.
For example:
A voice AI platform could check a number before allowing a call to reach an AI agent.
A messaging platform could investigate the current network position of a number before choosing how traffic should be routed.
A data team could ask an agent to examine a collection of telephone numbers without creating a separate interface for every task.
From API integration to agent-accessible intelligence
Most HLR Lookup customers access live telecom intelligence through our API. The MCP server provides an additional way for developers to make that intelligence available to AI applications and agent platforms.
MCP provides a standardised way for AI systems to discover and use external tools. Rather than building custom logic for every AI client, developers can connect a compatible application to the HLR Lookup MCP server and make number intelligence available within the agent’s existing environment.
The protocol changes how an AI agent accesses HLR Lookup, but it does not change the expertise or infrastructure behind the result.
HLR Lookup has specialised in number verification and validation since 2005, delivering millions of lookups daily through established telecom expertise, direct supplier relationships and wide global coverage.
Built for real telecom use
The HLR Lookup MCP server has been developed in response to a customer development request, reflecting how telecom, communications, and AI platforms are beginning to work with live number intelligence.
This is particularly relevant to developers building:
Voice AI and automated call-screening systems
CPaaS and messaging platforms
Telecom routing and carrier-intelligence tools
Fraud and onboarding workflows
AI-assisted data-quality operations
Multi-agent systems that need live telephone-number information
The opportunity is not to give an AI model more raw information to interpret without context. It is to make dependable, current telecom signals available at the point where the agent needs to act.
Your AI agent can reason. Now it can check the network.
